Serenity

Went to see Serenity last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, in fact I would go as far as saying it was GODRAD! On reflection though I am unable to decide whether I liked it because I am a Joss Whedon fanboy or whether it is actually a good film in its own right. I thought the script was excellent and consistently funny but the beginning of the film did feel like an extended episode and there was none of the grandiose cinematography we are lead to expect from Sci-Fi of this nature. So can someone who isn't a fan of Buffy or Firefly help me out, is it a good film?

Also saw Nightwatch over the weekend, unfortunately I was slightly drunk which was not helped by the fact that the cinema is licensed so I took a large glass of red wine in with me, but I have to say I was slightly disappointed. It had good bits, the scene with the women carrying out the magical miscarriage for instance, but the story just seemed a bit overpacked and slightly dull, in fact I left the cinema thinking 'weren't the subtitles good' which indeed they were, but I'm sure the filmmakers would have preferred my departing thoughts to be more about the quality of the film. I shall watch it again on DVD with a clear head and reappraise my decision.

I don't know how you have the nerve to review films when you love Hawk the Slayer so much. I shall take all recommendations from you with a sack of salt.

I was quite tempted by NightWatch untill i found out the plot... secret war going on between good and evil on OUR VERY STREETS. OMG! who'd have thought it? Not poeple who haven't seen Underworld, Blade, Buffy or anything else with that plot which is loads of films.

I'm gogin to watchn serenity this weekeend i expect. I like buffy, but probably not as much as you and I've not seen firefly so I'll let you know what I think.

I guarantee that they are all shit films. This is for 3 main reasons:

1. They are based on dialogue based philosophical events and not screen texture/movement.
2. Their narrative structure is based on causality and is therefore a slave to temporality.
3. They have people in them, which is a nono.

I hope that clears it all up.

Cheers
